INTRODUCTION

The Media and TV Industry in Nigeria is undergoing rapid change, fast!  Skills and knowledge are becoming real issues, and the technology of the industry are changing daily from an analog to digital realm, from single platforms to a convergence of various platforms and new technologies, formats and the more challenging commercial climate.

There is an ever-increasing need for professional training for beginners and professionals who now need to adopt a long-term approach to ensuring their skills are as up to date as possible.

There is also a great shortage of talent in the labor pool in many areas, and many who have not been trained properly. In Nigeria today there are skill areas in broadcast technology for example, where broadcasters, Production companies and media organizations struggle to recruit. Increasingly there are reports of skills needs around management, core production, audio technicians and  a new leadership throughout the industry.

IBST has been in the forefront of producing many of Nigeria’s biggest TV shows over many years, and our reputation and track record is well known in all areas of production expertise.  We also have been involved with some of the most revolutionary broadcast technology installations across Nigeria; added to this is our facility in Ogudu, Lagos boasts some of the most modern HD and SD Production and Post Production facilities in Nigeria which are utilized in actual production and post production on many productions all year round.  Its an ideal learning environment!

Today IBST is now involved in helping beginners to the industry and professionals understand and adapt to changing technologies and new platforms, and develop their skills; there is a particular need for executives producers, Managers and senior staff to identify and exploit the opportunities presented by this new landscape by training their core staff to meet up with the increasing demands of the industry.

With the majority of the industry workforce in Lagos, other states and regions have provided fewer opportunities for training and development in recent years. But there is significant investment being made in these States and regions, and this also needs to noted and skilled manpower developed to meet their needs too.

While many employers increasingly need multi-skilled staff and freelancers as production budgets tighten, there is still a need for specific skills development and training in the industry.

IBST has decided to start addressing these skill needs via its ‘NEW IBST SHORT-TERM WORKSHOPS AND PRODUCTION COURSES, these short courses provide hands on training and practicalization of the various course modules in real production situations.  We are starting this year with just 7-courses that will run at various times during the year.  We hope you will find time to add value by attending a suitable course.  Please remember places are very few on our courses and you will need to register on time.

INTRODUCTION TO PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

Course Objectives

In film and television, there are few jobs that are changing faster than that of the Production Manager. From data management to delivering program on multiple platforms, the role of the Production Manager has expanded so widely that many PM’s are now full partners in running companies, rather than being sidelined in middle management.

So what does it take to be a Production Manager? An individual who can do more than say ‘no’! Someone who is creative with budgets but keeps an sharp eye on the bottom line; someone who knows enough about Health and Safety to protect the cast and crew but not detract from getting the right shot; someone who knows about the best locations at the best price - and who knows production from start to finish!

Training on the job has traditionally been the way into production management but with a shortage of PM’s in the industry, new routes into this important role have to be found. This new course combines a basic training with practical experience and could help put your career as a Production Manager on a faster track.  This course takes place over 3 separate weekends consecutively.

UNDERSTANDING POST PRODUCTION

Course Objectives

HD, DI, VFX, EPK’s, EDL’s, slop mixes, versioning, subtitles, music, DVD extras, post-production and completion schedules, legal, technical and administrative delivery requirements … You know all about this, do you?

Today, with innovative technology embracing the way we do things – and giving us all a multitude of complicated options to follow, it is even more vital to understand all the elements that make up the post-production and completion schedules of any TV commercial, feature or television drama series or Reality show. Because if you don’t, then you run the risk of severely affecting the plan, schedule, budget and contractual delivery requirements all producers must abide by.

This three-day intensive course provides a thorough overview of the different processes and practices that work successfully in post-production. It is aimed at producers and production personnel who need to fully understand how their work and decisions can impact on what happens during the post and completion phases of a film or television drama series.

By unraveling in detail, facets of post-production; by explaining in clear, concise terms what the many different processes are, and briefly how they work; by discovering that decisions made in pre-production can affect how the production is lit and shot for completion in post, a picture will be built up which shows how post-production must be carefully considered, assessed, planned and scheduled, and - with careful monitoring – is delivered legally, administratively and technically, on time and within budget.

Requirements: No formal requirements. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis and are bookable by Applicants by picking up application forms at our offices or on our website.   However applicants who have proof of having worked in a production environment will be given preference.
